If any of you are in the Salt Lake City area for the coming April Comic-con "Fan X", I'll be in a booth in Artist Alley, selling my invention - the Caption-ator!  A word (or thought) balloon that can be safely attached to almost any display figure!

Read up on it at www.caption-ator.com
You can buy them from me direct at the con, or order through the web page at the BUY SOME link!

2013 is winding to a close!
My posting has been spotty lately due to employment issues and job seeking - but hopefully that's winding down.  I hope to post more this year.  In the meantime, enjoy New Years' Eve and responsibly drink only non-alcoholic beverages!

Given how spotty my posting has been lately (curse you, real life!), it may not make much of a difference, but in the next 3 weeks I need to find a new place to live, and move.  This means my leisure activities (including drawing and writing) will be put on the backburner until my housing situation is resolved.

I'll get back to it though, don't you worry ;)

My invention has a name now - the Caption-ator!
Check out the website at www.caption-ator.com and read all about it!

I've given a few samples away so people can test it out.  So far there seems to be a learning curve of sorts.  Most people are trying to suspend the word balloon shape in mid-air above the figure, but the putty tends to droop when that's done, especially in warmer temperatures.

For best performance, shape the support wire so that the balloon shape comes to 'rest' on the surface of the figure/statue/trophy to which it is attached via the holding putty....  Read the FAQ on the webpage for in-depth instructions!

I've been a bit slow on my art lately because I've been working on getting patent pending status on an idea for an invention I came up with back around 2007.  I've gotten to the point where I'm gearing up to start offering them for sale over the internet in a small way.

It's a neat little widget than can be attached safely to any display figure or action figure.  They're word balloon and thought balloon shapes that come with peel-off stickers so people can make their collectibles look like they're 'talking' or 'thinking'.

Check out my gallery for some pics of the item in action!

Thing is, I'm not sure exactly what to name it.  I've come up with a few punny names (as is my specialty).  But I'm not sure which one, if any, would be good.  So my brother, who works in marketing research, came up with a survey/poll/voting web page to collect opinions on which names might be good.  Click on the link below to take the survey.

www.surveymonkey.com/s/ZKB2TGN

And there's also a spot where you can suggest your own name, if it turns out you don't like any of the choices :)

Let me know what you think.  If this was for sale - would you want one...?

Laid off - again :(

I got laid off from my job of 10 years today, just as I was starting to think that things were going all right.  I'll have to put off working on my latest story and art until I can secure something else.  Everybody wish me luck as I seek my fortunes elsewhere...

Summer is here, and my parents are in for a visit from Texas. This means plenty of breeze being shot, and not much drawing or writing.  Be patient though, I'll be back at it soon enough.  I'm in the middle of working on a teaser poster for my next fanfic story, the next and most likely last installment of the 'All Things Probable' series....

Sorry I haven't posted any pics for a while.  At the end of September last year, I was laid off from my job.  I put all my art and leisure stuff on hold while I searched for a new position to escape unemployment.  It was an unnerving and weird journey, but by hard work, prayers and faith I found a new job that I've been settling into.

This has allowed me to return to drawing and writing, and I've nearly finished the KP fanfiction story I started three years ago.  Yep, chapter 38 of 'A Friend in Darkness' (the 3rd story in the All Things Probable series) is finally out!

It can be read and reviewed at fanfiction.net here:
www.fanfiction.net/s/3785522/3…

Now you may notice this chapter has no illustrations like the other chapters do.  That's because I put all the illustrations into a 'closing credits' video over at youtube.  I'd have posted the video here, but deviantart doesn't seem to have a video posting feature so all I can do is alert my journal and trust to everyone's curiosity :)

The chapter and video answer the riddle, 'Why wasn't there a Senior Prom episode of the KP tv series?'  So head over to youtube and check it out - reviews can be posted there, or here, or at fanfiction.net...

My brother and I have started a business-related web cartoon called 'McBIGCo'.  It's a spoof on the practices of businesses in general - all the weird things they do in commercials, in practice, how they deal with their customers, etc. etc.

I love fall.  I mean, I spring and summer are fine, don't mistake me.  But Fall and Winter have a thoughtful quiet about them that seems much more peaceful than the riotous growth of spring and summer.  I enjoy the crisp smell, the darker, cloudier, colder weather and the color change.  I like not having to use the A/C anymore, and breaking out the cold weather clothes.

Plus, halloween is coming up - which is my favorite holiday besides Christmas.  I'm already assembling my costume... ;)

Summer's on - not much more to say than that.  Everyhing on TV is a re-run, and the stuff that isn't re-runs are all 'reality' TV shows.  But school starts again soon, which means mourning kids will be stumbling their way to class like zombies before long...

My twin brother (yes, I have a twin brother!) Nathan wrote a book called "Boing the Half Ogre" which he's posted on lulu.com.  It's a sort of 'print your own' website that cuts out the publishing middleman by letting people print their own copies.  The site is here:

www.lulu.com/nathanafisk

What is 'Boing the Half Ogre'?  Well, a story synopsis is at the web page.  The tale fills the limited, but (I think) very diverting role of 'fantasy/comedy'.  It profiles the tale of a Half-Ogre fighter, a loudmouth wizard, and a hunchbacked theif who rarely says anything but 'Yeth bozz.'  They wind up getting killed in a mission for their respective guilds - but are brought back by the gods for an epic quest to thwart Death himself to save the world!

I admit I'm pimping his story - but I've read it and it's good.  It's funny, and well penned while still being exciting.  Give it a look see - without a publishing company, word of mouth is one of the only ways to sell good stories like this.  With LuLu, you don't have to buy a printed copy - you can download full stories at a reduced price and read them in PDF file.  It's quite cool...

I'm working on cover art for him, and that should be fun as well :)  It's kind of like being part of 'Mythadventures' with Phil Foglio...

The nominating for the 4th annual "Golden Fannies" award for KP fanfictions is still in progress!  According to the forum moderator and contest host, Zaratan, voting is down this year.

I encourage (urge!) anyone who hasn't nominated their favorite KP stories in their categories of choice to go to this link:

www.fanfiction.net/topic/329/1…

Increase those numbers!  Phase1 ends at the end of January.  Peruse the thread to see the categories, then vote your favorite tales.

So be sure to read, study and nominate for your favorite tales, no matter who wrote them.  Email your nominations to the forum boss, and contest boss, Zaratan at this email: zaratan4@hotmail.com

Participate in the process - support the municipality!
